Janet J. Lawler is a screenwriter, playwright and author.
Recently, Janet’s screenplay “Absolution” placed as a Feature Finalist
in the 2017 Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards.


“Absolution” also placed as a semi-finalist in the 2017 Shore

Scripts Screenwriting Competition.


Janet’s screenplay “The Tenant” was a Quarterfinalist in the

2015 Nicholl Fellowship sponsored by the Academy of Motion

Picture Arts and Sciences.  “The Tenant” also received recognition as a semifinalist in the 2015 Austin Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.  “The Tenant” is in development as a feature film.


As a playwright, two of Janet’s stage plays “Netfits” and “Good Grief” will be produced at Ridgefield Barn Theater in Ridgefield, CT for their 2018 One Acts Showcase. 


Janet’s new play “The Kiss” was produced in 2016 by the Distilled Theatre in New York/San Diego. You can check it out it under her plays or in iTunes. Janet’s previous plays “NetFits” and “Extreme Green”  received staged performances in New York, Florida and Chicago. 


Janet writes and created the “The New York / LA Screenwriting Life” Blog now in its 13th year online with 92,000 views. 


Janet’s debut novel “From the Ground Up” was published in 2014 and is available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.


Janet is a member of Women in Film LA and is currently working on a new feature screenplay and TV pilot.


Besides her love for storytelling, Janet has a strong background in broadcast journalism, currently working for NBC News in Los Angeles.  She is married and lives in Southern California.
